Challenge #4

Modified circle challenge: by Ali Edwards

Use just a bit of pattern as an add-on to a circle. Choose two patterns with coordinating colors (the ones on page 144 of Ali's new book, both have a gray-beign tone) , punch and tear them, and adhere them to a punched circle. It's a great way to get a bit of pattern onto a layout. Have fun experimenting, we can't wait to see your pages this week.

Challenge #3

Art @ Age 3 by Ali Edwards

the challenge: Art patterns can also be "real life" art. One of my favorite ways to display Simon's art is to turn it into patterned paper. I combined his handprints (which is art in itself!) with the art his hands created. Go ahead-experiment. Create your own art prints and make a scrapbook page with it!

Challenge #2

Instead of cutting everything into squares and rectangles, take an angular approach! Take a large photograph and cut the bottom at an angle. Use ribbons to define the edges of the photograph. Stack layers of triangular paper underneath the photo to create a playful look on your page.

That's it. Easy. Now lets see what you can come up with. Remember that your pages are due in Scrappin' Buds on Thursday. And pick up your copy of "A Designer's Eye for scrapbooking with patterned paper" by Ali Edwards from the store. It has examples of the challenges in the back of the book. Have fun scrappin'.

Ali Edwards Challenge #1

Challenges

'One of the most effective ways I've found to try something new is to engage myself in a challenge.' Ali Edwards

Challenges are such a good opportunity to stretch ourselves and to help us remember that this hobby that we all love so much is not only about capturing memories, but also be about having fun in the process. So with that said, join us on a 17 week journey through the Ali Edwards' challenges in her 'A Designer's Eye for scrapbooking with patterned paper' book. We are encouraging you to get her book (we will carry them in our store) but you don't have to have it to do the challenges. Just read on and join us to enjoy exploring your artsy side!

The new challenge will come out on Friday of every week. And on the following Thursday, your layouts are due in Scrappin' Buds so we can post them for the Friday night crop. This is a good way to get everyone's creative juices going! There are no size requirements, no rules, no stress, just have fun.

Ok, are you ready?? Here's the first one, how exciting!!!

the challenge #1
Go to your scraps. Close your eyes (this takes the problem of choice and too much thinking out of the equation). Pull out six pieces of patterned paper that are big enough to be square-punched. Punch one square from each scrap. Now punch three photos. Place all nine squares together on a 12x12 piece of cardstock. Journal around the outside of your square. Voila-a wonderful example of a completely random pattern assortment!

Soooo fun. Can't wait to see your pages on Thursday.
